Joseph Lautru - Engineer - in charge of the clean room facilites for polymer components and microarrays technologies managed by IDA (FR CNRS 3242, ENS Cachan)

1) The clean room is one of the six IDA's shared plateform : What are the intended uses?

The clean room is a platform for the development of polymer components. Using the Top-Down approach components are created by the process of overlapping micro and nano-structured layers. This platform is thus a tool dedicated to serve D'Alembert Institute research and focuses: physics, biology, chemistry and engineer sciences. Its uses are in constant evolution depending on the various research teams' projects. Nowadays intended uses are specifically geared toward detection aspects through the development of biological and chemical sensors.

2) Which abilities present in IDA's other platforms more specifically contribute to their implementation?

The 5 other platforms within the Institute enable to rely on the abilities and expertise of the heads of said platforms for the creation in the clean room of supplementary technological steps, as well as development and characterization aspects. Among the platforms that interact the most we find: the Microfluidic platform, the Characterization platform and the Imagery platform.

3) As the head of the cleanroom, can you tell us the resources provided to the teams and the rules to use it?

When someone comes into the cleanroom with a development project, he receives development expertise and advice to achieve his goal. The different steps that have to be done in the cleanroom or any other Institute's platforms can then be defined. In the controlled environment that is the clean room, we can mobilize equipment to carry out processes such as organic and metallic deposits, lithography or again structuring. To ensure the reproducibility of the results, the firmness of the technological processes, the rules relating to the cleanliness need to be followed. To these may be added, as it is a common area, other behavior rules. All these rules are taught to the future users of the cleanroom during the training required before any entrance in the cleanroom.
